“I met my mentor through a website called Model Mayhem and he blew me away after our first shoot,” says Solmaz Saberi, a Los Angeles-based photographer and director with over a decade of experience in fashion, beauty and entertainment. Solmaz started out as a make up artist and to build her book, started to shoot models for herself. She has a genuine passion for fashion photography that started out when she was really young. Her portfolio is characterized by bright hues, bold poses and glamorous fashion.
She’s also founded quarterly publication called Unleash’d Magazine and collaborated with a colorful cast of celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Pia Mia, Miguel, Christina Milian, Amber Rose and more. We chatted with her about how she got to where she is.

Fashion Photographer Solmaz Saberi Provides Inspiration and Insight in This Short Documentary
In this latest installation of Format’s InFrame documentary series, the camera turns to fashion and beauty photographer Solmaz Saberi who speaks from her experiences in getting started with photography to how she conducts a photoshoot to why she founded her own magazine. Directed by Bas Berkhout, you’ll want to check out this short video for your daily dose of inspiration.
Saberi is a Los Angeles-based photographer who after five years of shooting as a hobby, took a job at a brand new online magazine. She soon realized that what this magazine was doing she could do just as well herself and decided to start her own publication, Unleash’d Magazine, in 2010.
In this video we get an inside look at how Saberi runs a bigger budget photoshoot, which has her shooting until she finds one particular position that stands out and then working that pose for three to four hours until it’s perfected. There’s also a healthy dose of encouraging words that slip out from Saberi that is worth the watch alone.
If you enjoyed this episode of InFrame, I encourage you to also check out their debut video that featured Jessica Lehrman.
